One of the cool features of the FormConnect and FormConnect Pro apps is the ability to annotate a photo you have taken with your iPad or iPhone. The annotation is a great way to place extra emphasis on the problem area that you wish to focus on with the photo.
When filling out the form, the photo is automatically inserted into the form and then a color palate appears in the lower right corner of the screen where you can select which color to choose from when drawing on the photo. If you need to expand the size of the photo for readability purposes, just tap on it and it will get larger.
The FormConnect apps take advantage of some of the best features of the iPad and iPhone.
1. They allow you to go paperless.
2. No more faxing or scanning documents.
3. You can share your documents with other people via email or through a cloud service.
4. They have cameras for taking photos.
5. They have the ability to connect to the Internet.
When you combine these features with the FormConnect or FormConnect Pro app, you have a powerful productivity tool for data input which saves you time and money in performing your job. Below is an example of how one of our customers utilizes our app and the iPad to fill out a form and share it with other people.
When designing a form, the checkbox field is a very effective way to describe what is being asked for when filling out a form. Tap once on the checkbox and a blue tick (check) appears. Both the FormConnect and FormConnect Pro apps have the ability to create checkbox fields. The FormConnect Pro app also has the ability to make the checkbox field a “required field” so that if you don’t fill it out, you cannot save the record.
Apple released iOS 11.1 beta on September 27th. Many of you like to live on the edge and have download it, even though Apple recommends installing beta software only on a test machine.
Let me give you a reason not to install it. It won’t work with the latest version (v220.127.116.11) of the FormConnect and FormConnect Pro apps. It will require us to release an updated version of FormConnect that is compatible with iOS 11.1.
We have been testing an update internally that is compatible, but we can’t release it until Apple officially releases iOS 11.1 to the general public. The reason why we cannot release it is because Apple does not allow developers to submit updates that are compatible with beta software. They require us to wait until the official release is made public and then submit an update.
So, even though we have an iOS 11.1 update, we can’t release it until the official version is released to the public. When will that happen? We don’t know. Apple does not pre-announce the dates of their software releases. Our best guess would be around the time the new iPhone X is released (November 3rd) but we have no inside information and this is only a guess.
In summary, don’t install iOS 11.1 beta and wait until it is officially released to the public in a few weeks.
Note: If you have iOS 8, iOS 9, iOS 10, iOS 11 installed, you don’t have anything to worry about. The FormConnect apps work with all of these iOS versions. The only thing you need to be concerned with is iOS beta software.
Checkboxes and Radio buttons look very similar in shape but serve very different purposes. Checkboxes are independent of each other and can be chosen individually or as part of a group. Radio buttons consist of multiple selections but only one item can be chosen at a time.
Both the FormConnect and FormConnect Pro apps allow you to create an unlimited number of checkboxes and radio button fields.
The dropdown field allows you create to a list of items to choose from but takes up very little space on the form. There is no limitation as to how many items can be contained in a list or how many dropdown fields can placed on the form. Below is a sample form that one of our customers created that has lots of different dropdown fields.
We get asked a lot about what’s the difference between the FormConnect and FormConnect Pro apps. There is a link on our website that highlights all the differences.

I’m going to highlight one feature called “Required Field”. It allows you to specify a field that must be filled in before the record can be saved. The field has a setting that must be checked. If the field is not filled in, a pop-up message will be displayed indicting that the field is required.
Checkboxes and drop-down fields serve very similar purposes. The main difference is the way they display on the form. Checkboxes display all the choices on the form whereas drop-down fields display their choices in a list that you select from when you tap on the blue down arrow. The sample form below incorporates both checkboxes and drop-down fields.
A common question is can you create a form in your native language? The FormConnect app is localized in English but the form that you create can be in any language so the only person that needs to understand English is the person that creates the form. Below are sample forms that were created in the person’s native language.
A drop-down field is a way to create multiple items to choose from in a single field on the form. You choose the item by tapping on the blue down arrow and selecting the item in the list. When designing a form, the FormConnect app allows you to create as many drop-down fields as you like and add as many items to the list as you desire. In the screen shot below, there are 11 drop-down fields on page 1 of this form and 11 items in the drop-down field (Backs) to choose from.
